Transport & Accommodation
We would love to enjoy a holiday together!! This was one of the reasons we chose this day and location for our wedding.
We negotiated special prices and made group bookings in some hotels in order to make sure that there will be space for everyone who will travel for our wedding. It's peak season in August so we don't want anyone to be left without a room.
How can you travel to Kavala?
There are several ways - beyond driving in (if you're coming from Greece). The first is by air. Then it's by bus or a combination of rail and bus/drive.
- If you fly into Thessaloniki airport then estimate also a short drive to Kavala. If you are not planning to have a car (if you need one let us know and we might be able to help), you can also take a bus (called KTEL). Usually during summer, they run on the hour every hour with the last one (except on Sundays) being at 10pm. But I would suggest checking the schedule directly at the Kavala KTEL (google KAVALA KTEL dromologia) so that the program is up-to-date. The ticket to Kavala via the KTEL bus costs 15 euros - and there's a discount if you buy a return ticket. Don't forget to estimate the distance from the airport to the KTEL station Macedonia of Thessaloniki (which takes one hour by public transport depending on traffic). For the public transport in Thessaloniki (which is a bus), you can get a ticket from the kiosk at the airport or from inside the bus (it costs 2 euros but I think you should have them precisely because the machine on the bus does not give change).
- If you fly into the Kavala airport - it usually has flights to/from Athens too - it is a bit more difficult to get to Kavala's city centre than from Thessaloniki. Kavala's airport is outside the city, in Chrysoupoli. And there is a shuttle bus only for Olympic / Aegean flights (usually at 8 am and 8 pm). So if you are not coming with Aegean or another flight around these hours then let us know and we will try to come and get you. Otherwise, there is the option of a taxi or KTEL bus with a transfer (which won't be very comfortable in August). In Greece you won't find Uber but there's another app called beat. A taxi from the airport costs around 40 euros. The journey from the airport to the centre takes 20 minutes by car or 45 minutes by bus.
- You can come by a KTEL bus from Thessaloniki (from Makedonia station). They take about 2 hours - if you can take the express bus which takes exactly 2 hours. Usually, during summer, they run on the hour every hour with the last one (except on Sundays) being at 10pm. But I would suggest checking the schedule directly at the Kavala KTEL (google KAVALA KTEL dromologia) so that the program is up-to-date. The ticket to Kavala via the KTEL bus costs 15 euros - and there's a discount if you buy a return ticket.
- If you are coming from Athens, you can come either by bus directly (which arrives twice a day and the single ticket is 55 euros (advance return has a discount) or by train to Thessaloniki (39 euros per ticket) and then by KTEL bus (from Makedonia Station). The train station in Thessaloniki is close to the KTEL Macedonia - it takes a maximum of 20 minutes by car. You can also fly to Kavala or Thessaloniki and follow the above instructions. You can come by a KTEL bus from Thessaloniki (from Makedonia station). They take about 2 hours - if you can take the express bus which takes exactly 2 hours. Where to stay in Kavala
1. Airotel Galaxy
This is the hotel where the reception will take place. Because the party can continue at the hotel until 6am it is a very convenient choice. We were also promised that our guests will have the rooms upstairs so that any parents can be next to their children when they go to sleep. Prices at the hotel are as follows:
- Single with city view: 63 euros (57 euros with 10% discount)
- Double with city view: 72 euros (65 euros with 10% discount)
- Triple with city view: 90 euros (81 euros with 10% discount)
- Single with sea view: 77 euros(69 euros with 10% discount)
- Double with sea view: 86 euros(77 euros with 10% discount)
- Triple with sea view: 104 euros(95 euros with 10% discount)
In addition to the above prices, our guests will have a 10% discount. For reservation contact gh-reservations@airotel.gr stating that you are for the "Sapanidi" wedding. There is also a city tax of 3 euros per day on top of the above prices.
You can also request a baby cot at the hotel when making a reservation.
The only drawback is that the hotel does not have parking but our guests can leave their car in the parking lot of the port of Kavala which is less than 5-minute walk from the hotel. At the front there's a pay-to-park one but if you go where the lorries are it's free. Generally, there is free parking in various places and on the road in front of the hotel (as you look at the marina) - so wherever you find, park!
How easily can you access the beach from the hotels in the centre of Kavala?
Kavala also has beaches in the city center. Rapsani and Kalamitsa among others. Oceanis Hotel is a maximum of 10 minutes walk from the beach of Rapsani. The Airotel Galaxy is 15 minutes away. Also, for those who will not have a car, they can easily move by KTEL buses to the beaches of Palio, Iraklitsa, Peramos and Ammolofous. It has very regular routes and it takes for Paleo 15 minutes, Iraklitsa 25 minutes, Peramo and Ammolofous 40-50 minutes. By car of course it takes much less.
How about the nightlife in Kavala?
In summer Kavala comes to life and has very nice places to go out at night - most with a view. Most places to go out are in the city center - so if you would be interested in going out at night, it would be best to stay in the city center. A few of our favourites are listed on the page Things to do in Kavala.
